KATE RICHARDS WILT- My Racing Heart, LLC
Horses; it’s a passion that runs through her veins – literally. With bloodlines tracing back to Merriweather Lewis, one of the subsequent founders of Churchill Downs, and relatives who both followed and had breeding and racing connections socially in New York, Kate Wilt’s passion for horses is not something that can easily be ignored. Her experience with horses began at age six, when she began visiting the track. Wearing her Easter patent leathers and hat, Wilt quickly fell in love with everything about the track atmosphere – the smell and beauty of the horses, the Shirley Temples and the extra time she got to spend talking with adults. However, it actually wasn’t until 2008 that Wilt would truly understand the grim reality of race horses living in the racing world. After watching the heartbreaking breakdown of Triple Crown hopeful Barbaro on TV, an event which ultimately would lead to his death, Wilt decided to self-educate herself about the lives of race horses after their careers. Determined to make a positive change in the racing industry and the treatment of post-career horses, Wilt started My Racing Heart in 2008. Originally a non-profit, the organization began raising money for grants to go towards various equine rescue organizations. Initially focusing on supporting equine charities that understood the numerous ways horses can assist in physical and emotion therapy, today My Racing Heart has expanded the number of horse-related organizations they help to include charities that assist backside workers, their families and more!  While the foundation was successful, Wilt learned that by taking the company commercial she could make My Racing Heart even more effective and therefore better support the racing legends of her childhood, along with numerous other horses who had been neglected and abused. With 2009 marking the year that My Racing Heart would make the transition from non-profit to LLC, Wilt also decided it would be the best time to introduce her newest venture – My Racing Heart Coffee. Creating the blend with Consumers Choice Coffee, My Racing Heart Coffee is sold today online at www.myracingheart.org to raise funds for various Kentucky equine charities. Made using top quality Costa Rican Tarrazu and Guatemalan Antigua Beans with a touch of Colombian, My Racing Heart Coffee is available in both regular and decaf brews. Through the promotion of both My Racing Heart Coffee and various fundraisers done through My Racing Heart, LLC. the company has raised over $11,500 in grants to give to local charities. A graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, Wilt enjoys spending time with her husband Stephen, daughter Morgan and their four dogs Jezebelle, Clarabelle, Nelliebelle and Crawford when not hard at work promoting My Racing Heart, LLC.
