ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Claire Dorotik tells her story of family tragedy and healing from a unique position. For not only did she experience this trauma personally; she also views and understands it as a licensed psychotherapist specializing in trauma. This vantage point provides the author a perspective that few can offer. That is to say that, she had an intellectual and therapeutic framework in which to understand what was happening to her emotionally as the events recounted in this book were happening, which allows Claire to tell an amazing story in a unique way.
However, Claire also tells the story from another place. Having spent a lifetime around horses- growing up riding and training horses and later riding at many of the country’s top show barns- she, in many ways understood them before she understood people.
Because of the role horses have played in her life, Claire has made a specialization of equine facilitated psychotherapy, developing an equine assisted psychotherapeutic approach that has proved highly effective in restoring emotional and physical balance to those who have battled trauma, abuse, and eating disorders. This approach has been utilized by many recovery centers including Creative Care Recovery in Malibu, CA, The Canyon Recovery Center in Malibu, CA, and other facilities that have come to recognize the unique way in which horses can facilitate powerful healing experiences for clients. She has written many articles for Horsetrader, Ride, and Flying Changes magazines on the subject of horses and horse training.
Claire lives in Denver, Colorado where she competes in dressage with her two horses, Kona and Admiral. In her spare time, Claire is an avid distance runner, with 34 marathons to her credit.
