Getting to Know You: Jane Jones

News

This week we’re talking to Jane Jones, online horse racing betting expert and webmaster at latestbettingoffers.com. Jane first got involved with horse racing as a child. Her father was a trainer and she would often be found at the stables or the racetrack.

“It just kind of got in my blood” she told me. “Ever since I watched my first horse race, I knew I’d always be involved in it in some way.”

It must have been the course bookies who influenced Jane the most, as her first major job was as an odds compiler for the online bookie Blue Square, which was later bought by Betfair.

“I loved every minute of it. The challenge was to know more about the horses, trainers, jockeys and tracks than your competitors. If your book was priced properly, you’d make a profit no matter how smart the punters were!”

A year before Blue Square was bought out, Jane left and decided to take a different track. She joined the Latest Betting Offers team and helped create a groundbreaking betting offers comparison website – one of the first of its kind.

“I decided it would be more fun to switch sides and help the punters rather than the bookies,” said Jane. “At the time there was no other site that did what we were doing, although there are tons of copycat sites around now. We wanted to create a resource where the punter could get the best odds and offers in one place, whether they already had an account or not. Knowledge is power and some of these offers can really make a difference, while others aren’t worth bothering with. We made a site that told you which was which, quick and easy.”

The online horse racing betting world has changed considerably since then, but Jane remains upbeat about the future.

“We have our work cut out to stay ahead of the low quality copycat sites that have come along with big budgets to try and take over the space,” she says. “But I relish a challenge and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved. At the end of the day we’ll outlast the others because we offer the user a quality experience and we genuinely care about them, not about profit. That’s what sets us apart from the rest.”

We wish her all the best for the future.
