Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is the nation's oldest Catholic liberal arts women's college,and a leader in distance education for both women and men.Founded in 1840 by Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and the Sisters of Providence,the College is located on 67 wooded acres in west central Indiana.Today, SMWC thrives by offering a rich liberal arts education, scholarships and financial aid opportunities to make college affordable, individual attention, a value-centered education in a Catholic tradition, and a wide variety of student leadership activities. SMWC takes great pride in the Mari Hulman George School of Equine Studies preparing students to meet the challenges of an expanding equine industry. Students combine their equine interests with other disciplines for a wide variety of career possibilities. The Equine Center connects a historic stable with a new, modern complex, including a laboratory and classroom wing. Riding and training skills are practiced in the indoor and outdoor arenas. Three majors are offered: Equine Studies, Equine Business Management, and Equine Training and Instruction.  An Equine Science minor is available for students wishing to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. The Career Development Center (CDC) offers educational resources, developmental experiences, and professional connections to empower students and alumni to discover their passion and live happy.
