MEMBER SPOTLIGHT - PENNY MORRELL
NEW SWAN FARM THOROUGHBREDS

Penny Morrell loves horses, down to her core. At age 5, finding a 17-hand mule that wandered onto her family’s lawn in Birmingham and screaming “Finders Keepers!”, she refused to give it back to the owner until he promised a ride. Pigtails and all, she rode. And rode. And rode. It was the beginning of a love affair. The newspaper even featured her adventure in a story. At age 12, she sneaked around the neighborhood to breed her Appaloosa with those from adjoining farms. She was simply curious about what combination would be produced. Penny was “playing scientist,” obsessed with genetics. Her 15 breedings were 100% successful, leaving the neighbors curious and Penny in equine Eden.

Convincing her lawyer husband to go into Equine Law, she stumbled upon a client with bargain-priced thoroughbreds. Penny bought seven highly-prized mares. And New Swan Farm was born. New Swan Farm now breeds with the best in the business – Spendthrift Farms and other top names – as well as breeding its own fine thoroughbreds to each other. Bloodlines at New Swan Farm are, literally, the best of the best. Two sons of the #1 and #2 sires in the world call New Swan Farm home, along with 30 other fine thoroughbreds. After a two-horse purchase from a shifty trainer, Penny vowed “never again.” Now she works with the best in the business. Reaching well beyond the scope of most new equine businesses, New Swan Farm contracts exclusively with trainers and jockeys rated in the top 10% in the nation. No exceptions. Focusing on breeding for speed and confirmation, and with A+ or better thoroughbreds, New Swan Farm is making waves in the business. Quiet excellence, with an emphasis on good bloodlines and exceptional horses. Quality speaks loudly in Penny Morrell’s quiet, honest voice. She's got some really hot prospects and has several syndications available.
