SUSAN CARTER - PHOTOGRAPHY

Susan has owned and ridden horses most of her life, so when she began taking photographs, specializing in equines was the natural fit. She derives great pleasure in capturing the beauty of the equine form in all its varieties, from a majestic draft stallion, to a Thoroughbred race horse, to a small pony. Susan shoots steeplechasing, fox hunting, hunter pair races and horses at liberty extensively in addition to flat racing, dressage and eventing. Her fine art prints sell at several Virginia locations, as well as on her website, and she participates in an annual fund raiser for the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation called Art at the Barn. Susan conducts farm, stallion and sales shoots in northern central Virginia.

Seeking to continually improve her work, Susan regularly attends photography classes and seminars and maintains membership in the Equine Photographers Network and National Association of Photoshop Professionals. Her work has received recognition in numerous photography contests and been accepted and exhibited in juried shows. Her racing images have appeared in publications such as Steeplechase Times and The Chronicle of the Horse.

When she is not taking photographs, Susan trains and competes her OTTB and lure courses her Salukis. She is also a software developer with a BA from Dartmouth College and MAs from University of Hawaii and Fairleigh Dickinson University.
