WHINNY AWARDS EXPANDS PROGRAM AND
GETS NEW NAME
Riding on the success of the 1st annual WHINNY awards, the Women’s Horse Industry Network has announced some big changes for the 2012 event.
The event exceeded WHIN’s expectations and was a huge success, beign sold out well ahead of time. WHINNY winners who attended the event included Country music icon, Lynn Anderson, Madeleine Pickens, Elizabeth Shatner, Mike and Martha Borchetta and music industry executive Bonnie Garner.
Afterwards, many people started calling it the “Oscars” of the equine industry. “We think that’s what it should be and therefore, have changed the name to “The American Equine Awards” to better reflect what the awards are. The awards will now include nominations in a variety of categories from all areas of the equine industry. We’re excited to be able to shine the light on some of the superstars in our industry and by setting up the event this way, we can,” states Catherine Masters, President of the group.
Just like the “Oscars” members in good standing of the Women’s Horse Industry Network will be the only ones able to vote on the nominees. After the voting, the top three nominees will be in the running to win the “WHINNY” award for their particular category. The winner will be announced at the gala dinner in the Fall. The dates or venue have not been set yet but the event will be held again in Nashville, Tennessee. “Nashville is the home base for WHIN plus it offers everyone who comes to town a tremendous amount of things to do. Plus, many of the country music artists are big time equine enthusiasts,” states Masters.
